Pre-game Notes: Islanders vs Bruins 3/31/12

Apologies for the lack of post-game notes the other night. I was actually at the game and the rest of us were pretty busy I think so it just sort of slipped our minds. Hard to keep up with these when there’s games every other day!

Anyway, the Bruins failed to clinch a playoff spot the other night versus Washington, but by virtue of the Penguins beating the Sabres last night, our boys are officially in the hunt to repeat. I guess it kind of would have been nice if they could have clinched a spot themselves but for the most part they are in control of their own destiny. Time to lock up the division and maintain home-ice advantage.

I look at this game in Long Island as a classic trap game. The Bruins have clinched a playoff spot with 5 games left and are in good position to coast through the rest of the season (and I believe, if I’m not mistaken, that with a Bruins’ win and a Senators’ regulation loss tonight, the Bruins lock up their division). Now is the time that Claude is going to rest the big guns (Chara, Bergeron, Thomas, etc.) and the Islanders really have nothing to lose. The Isles have  won their last 3 games, two of which were 5-3 wins over Pittsburgh (a team that is also coasting to the playoffs). The good news is that the Bruins own the Islanders historically and Bruins fans own Nassau Coliseum.

I heard whispers that Torey Krug might get his NHL debut today so that’s something to look out for. Imagine him paired with Chara? Chara’s stick is taller than he is. Also heard that Seidenberg could be cleared to play again today after missing the last couple games.

Projected Lineup:

Lucic – Krejci – Seguin
Marchand – Bergeron – Peverley
Pouliot – Kelly – Rolston

Chara – Seidenberg
Ference – Boychuk
Zanon – Corvo

Turco
Thomas

Pile on the Isle, boys. Lock that shit up.
