Pre-game Notes: Penguins vs Bruins 4/3/12

To be perfectly honest with you guys, this pre-game is probably going to be half-assed because nothing matters anymore. The playoff spot is ours,  the division is ours, at this point the B’s just need to get through the remaining three games without anymore injuries. Pittsburgh however, is still vying for #1 spot in the East. Thats likely not to happen, the Rangers have 107, Penguins with 102, each with 3 games left. The Rangers would have to lose all 3 games and the Penguins would have to win all 3 to end the season with 108.  Its possible, but hard to imagine that the Rangers are going to drop the last three games of their season. Anyway, who cares since our division is clinched. Focus for tonight is no one get hurt.

This is the final of 4 meetings between Boston and Pittsburgh this season, with Boston having won only one game against them way back in December. There’s only so much Malkin, Neal, Crosby I can handle in one season, so thank god this series is coming to a close. Which reminds me. If you’re into sick, sadistic self torture, watch the game on NBCSN tonight. Obviously the player to watch of this game is Sidney Crosby because if you don’t, Pierre McGuire will find you.

Lots of crazy roster changes for the Bruins tonight, so that’ll be the focus today.

Jordan Caron is scratched tonight with what they’re calling the flu. But the flu is really just slang for “He was struck in the leg with a Chara slapshot and now he’s grown a foot taller and has developed a hunger for children and tears.” You know Julien, never wants to give too much away.

With Caron out, Paille will be back in the lineup and so will Campbell, who missed last game with a lower body injury. It was most likely maintenance for Campbell, so it’ll be nice to see that fourth line together again.

Another big thing is, new guy Torey Krug will be getting his first professional start tonight. Always like seeing new guys take the ice to see how they fit with the team. Tonight will be an interesting test for Mr. Krug.  But guess what bitches. Team scapegoat Joe Corvo also looks like he’ll be playing tonight. Obviously this is because other defensemen need to rest for the playoffs, but let us Joe Corvo lovers have this moment.

Projected Lineup:

Lucic-Krejci-Peverley

Marchand-Bergeron-Seguin

Pouliot-Kelly-Rolston

Paille-Campbell-Thornton (yay!)

Seidenberg-Chara

Ference-Corvo

Boychuk-Krug

Honestly don’t know about those D-pairs. I doubt Julien is going to stick Krug with Corvo so its all up in the air at this point.

Marty Turco in net tonight but don’t be surprised if Julien has something wonky up his sleeve. Timmy isn’t dressing tonight, so he’ll be up in the pressbox prowling for cheeseburgers. Khudobin is the back-up tonight, and I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if Julien changes goaltenders halfway through the game.

The third and fourth lines, with corresponding D-pairs will probably be getting a workout tonight. With the playoffs around the corner, Julien will be limiting the ice time of players like Chara and Bergeron. Whatever, more chances for Chris Kelly to score.

Final Thoughts

If a goal is scored half way around the world, does Sidney Crosby get the assist? According to Pierre McGuire, he does.
