Pre-game notes: Rangers vs. Bruins 1/23/13

I would like to take a moment and say how happy I am the Bruins are back and how difficult it is to type this on my phone. Challenge accepted.  Let’s talk hockey. So far the B’s have started the season with a bang. After beating the Rangers in the home opener and skating away with a shoot out win in a matinee game, the Bruins head away from arctic Boston to New York City for a 7:30pm match up against the Rangers.

After the break, see the projected lines and prediction for tonight’s game.

The Bruins are 2-0-0 while the Rangers are 0-2-0. I am giddy with glee and I am sure most Bruins fans are too. The B’s have looked pretty good, especially rookie Dougie Hamilton who is on the ice for more than twenty minutes and playing solid defense. Chris Bourque, well, I’m sure he is happy wearing the spoked B he grew up cheering for, but I would like to see more from him on the ice as a member of the third line with Kelly and Peverley. Because of the condensed schedule for the rest of the year, the Bruins will have scheduled rest days to keep the Bruins healthy. Brad Marchand had a rest day yesterday but he will be on the ice against the Rangers tonight. Dennis Seidenberg will be a game time decision but he did travel with the team to New York City.

For the Rangers, the most important player of the night will be Henrik Lundqvist. In their last game against the Penguins, he allowed four goals before being pulled for the rest of the game. The Penguins went on to demolish the Rangers in a 6-3 blowout. The Rangers are looking for redemption. They have reached the bottom of the conference and have joined the Capitals, Hurricanes, and Flyers with zero points so far in this short season.

I expect this game to be a battle of the goaltenders, Tuukka versus Henrik. So expect a low score game that keeps you on your toes and your heart pumping in your chest. Game three of forty-eight!

Projected Bruins Lines (it hasn’t changed because, well, these lines are working):

Marchand – Bergeron – Seguin
Lucic – Krejci – Horton
Bourque – Kelly – Peverley
Paille – Campbell – Thornton

Go Bruins!
